In this free poker lesson I would like to look into the important aspect, of managing your poker bankroll, the big question is why is it so important to your poker success? So the point here is you can't continue playing if you have no money, no money means no funny. Poor management of their poker bankrolls is normally the reason why so many players fail in the poker game. People are trying to win too much too fast which usually results in many redeposits back into the poker sites.
For those of you that are not familiar with the term bankroll, this free poker lesson will explain it all, basically it is the amount of money that you have put aside to play poker and nothing else. A golden rule don't play with money you can't afford to lose, I sure you heard that one before, I just like to point it out in this free poker lesson. The best thing is to play with an amount you can afford to lose while you are playing poker. Below are the guidelines that I personally recommend and use when it comes to managing my bankroll.
Sit n Go's - Go for 2% of your bankroll for each buy in. For example if you have a $1000 bankroll then you should be playing $20 SNG's
Multi Table Tournaments (MTT) - I used 1% or 1/100th of my bankroll for each buy in. Multi Table Tournaments normally payout to the top 10%, you find yourself cashing less often.
Cash Games - Use no more than 2% of each buy in. For example if you were playing $1/$2 NL, the buy in is usually 100 X Big Blind so in this case $200. If your asking me a bankroll of $10,000 is needed to play at these levels.
If your able to stick to this guidelines, you will be able to almost eliminate the chances of doing a redeposit to your account. Poker can be a roller coaster ride from time to time and you will inevitably go through some losing periods, that's just the way it is for all of us. If you don't have enough money to deal with these kinds of downswings, you can be forced to making some bad decisions due to the pressure you are dealing with.
